Ethical Commitment
A and C Gem Trading Corp. believes in fair trade, fair work practices, participating in our community and giving back to others!
Ensuring Ethical Sourcing from Mine to Market!
We work very diligently to verify the responsible mining and fair trade practices of the suppliers, with whom we work. We specifically ask our suppliers about the working conditions in the mines, and the cutting facilities. Our carefully vetted suppliers share videos and photos of their mining operations, the marketplace, and cutting facilities. We work hand in hand with a select few trusted partners around the globe who understand, respect, and adhere to the same fair trade values as A and C Gem Trading Corp.
Although it is an imperfect system, we consistently work to verify the origin and footprint of the gems which arrive on our desk in New York’s Diamond District, where we have been trusted colored stone dealers for two generations, since the 1950’s. We are actively engaged in sending many of our gems to the GIA for independent verification of their authenticity and treatments. We have over 5000 GIA and GRS Reports for our colored gems.
We are committed to improving the transparency in the supply chain of the colored stone industry, and are equally committed to supporting charitable social causes of all kinds. As well, we are committed to always honestly representing our merchandise and providing fairly priced wholesale gems to our clients- whether you are a beginning student or a long established high jewelry house, we treat all our clients with the same respect and professionalism!
Sourcing Regions and Practices:
Over the past two decades, we have engaged in ongoing conversations with our suppliers to ensure alignment with our values.
Our vetting process includes scrutiny of labor practices, environmental stewardship, and commitment to fair wages.
Brazilian Merchandise
Our Brazilian gemstones, including tourmaline, emerald, aquamarine, and topaz, are sourced from a trusted supplier in Minas Gerais. This supplier prioritizes mine safety, with regular inspections and adherence to safety protocols. Additionally, he maintains a cutting facility with exemplary working conditions.
Colombian Merchandise
Colombian emeralds are sourced through a reputable supplier with extensive experience and relationships in Bogota. Government oversight ensures ethical practices in cutting factories, and all purchased material undergoes stringent quality checks.
Zambian Merchandise
Our Zambian emeralds are procured through the same supplier as our Colombian goods. The rough material is responsibly mined by Gemfields and cut by skilled artisans in Jaipur, where fair wages and safe working conditions are maintained.
Sri Lankan and Madagascar Merchandise
Sapphires and spinels from Sri Lanka and Madagascar are ethically sourced through a trusted family supplier with membership in gem industry associations. Extensive oversight ensures ethical mining and cutting practices, with additional verification through independent lab reports.
Jaipur Cut Materials
Blue topaz, citrine, and other gemstones sourced from Jaipur are obtained through well-vetted brokers and mine owners. Cutting is carried out in a private facility, with adult workers paid above minimum wage and adhering to government regulations.
Giving Back to Community
We have compiled a list of organizations, and links to their sites, who we have chosen to share a percentage of the profits from the sale of our gemstones. Each of these organizations touches our hearts, or the hearts of those we care deeply for. We appreciate the opportunity given to us by our industry and hope to share some of this opportunity with others in need .
